Your Alarm Clock Isn’t Broken—Your BIG WHY Is: How Smart Agents Reignite the Fire (and Actually Enjoy the Hustle Again)

Let’s be honest—if your alarm clock feels like your sworn enemy lately, it’s not because you need more sleep… it’s because you’ve lost your spark.
You didn’t get into real estate to feel “meh” about your day.
You got in for freedom. Income. Impact. Maybe even a pool in the backyard and a margarita that doesn’t come from a gas station.
So what happened?
Somewhere between your last closing and your 47th “just checking in” text… your Big Why went missing.
I’ll tell you exactly when things changed for me.
Back in 2010, I made my first dream board. And no—it wasn’t Pinterest-worthy. It looked like a middle school art project gone rogue. Glue sticks, magazine clippings, crooked lines… the whole deal.
But something weird happened.
It worked.
That board gave me clarity I didn’t even know I needed. It pushed and encouraged me to get over my biggest fear and make a massive decision—to sell my real estate business. I was selling over 100 homes a year in Bryan-College Station, Texas, and was content, but not not truly happy. I couldn't put my finger on it, but once I finished my dreamboard and stepped back to take a look at it - things started to make sense.
My dreamboard was filled with stuff in and around the water. Sailing, cruises, jet skis, scuba diving, and on and on and on. It was probably 80% water related, and I was living in Bryan-College Station (not exactly a coastal or beach town). At that moment, I realized that I was chained to my business - how was I going to replace the income from selling 100+ homes a year (it would be economic suicide - I would be completely starting over from scratch from building a business that took me 13 years to build).
I discovered my Big Why - it was the ocean, the gulf or pretty much whatever the opposite of where I was living at the time. My dreamboard gave me the courage to do something that I never would have had the courage to do without seeing it for myself.
Fast forward to 2015… Dream Board 2.0.
Different season, different goals—but same result. It helped me see what was next before I was ready to admit it out loud.
Now here’s the part nobody talks about…

We spent 10 YEARS dreaming about our perfect home. Finally got it. Pool with hot tub, five bedrooms, three and a half baths, 4600 SF two-story home with three car garage on a half acre with movie room, study, butler's pantry and everything my wife and I had ever wanted.
We celebrated hard.
It felt amazing... for about a week.
Then one morning I woke up and thought:“Okay… now what?”
That’s when it hit me—Big Whys expire if you don’t replace them.
And when they do? So does your motivation.
This is where most agents get stuck.
They hit a goal… then coast. They lose momentum… then question everything. They blame the market… the leads… the interest rates…
But the real issue?
They’re operating without a current, meaningful WHY.
THE FIX
Build a Dream Board. Seriously.
Not because it’s cute.Because it’s effective.
Here’s how to do it without overthinking it:
Write down what you actually want (money, lifestyle, impact—be honest)
Find visuals that hit you emotionally
Throw it together (perfection is not required… at all)
Put it somewhere you’ll see daily
It’s not magic.
But it does rewire your focus—and your actions follow.
THE TRUTH:
When you stay connected to a strong WHY:
You stop procrastinating
You stop chasing distractions
You start doing the things that actually move the needle
And most importantly… you start enjoying the process again.
If you’re reading this thinking,“Yeah… I’ve definitely lost a little fire lately…”
You’re not alone—and you don’t have to figure it out by yourself.
I help agents get clear on their next Big Why, build a simple plan around it, and actually execute without burning out or spinning in circles.
No fluff. No hype. Just real strategy that works in the real world.
